Marshall Public Schools is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time Director of Special Education.
Job Summary:
The Director of Special Education provides leadership and assists in implementing special education services for students birth to age 22. In conformance to District, State and Federal objectives; maintains adequate staffing to ensure objectives of programs and services are achieved within budget.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
Minnesota Licensure as Director of Special Education
Essential Functions:
- Ability to manage the Dispute Resolution Process and ensure compliance with Due Process requirements
- Manage, advise, develop, and train staff on special education due process requirements in accordance with Minnesota Department of Education policies
- Conduct evaluations on teachers, identify areas of improvement, and support teachers in their continued development
- Provides leadership for paraprofessionals ensuring alignment with students individualized education program (IEP) plans and district policies
- Identify staff requirements, and make recommendations for staff hire and dismissal
- Provide specialized staff development for those working with students with disabilities
- Consults with school personnel and parents of children with disabilities regarding appropriate programming and/or follow up services and assures appropriate reporting to parents;
- Implement and manage special education budgets in line with state and federal requirements for special education funding
- Provide oversight for Third Party Billing
- Acts as a liaison between the district and various service agencies within the service area
- Represent the district and serve as a liaison to the Minnesota Department of Education, keeping administration informed of changes in legislation, funding, reporting, and staff certification.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Special Education and transportation services, overseeing communication, problem-solving, and quality assurance for special needs student transport.
- Ensure district compliance with IDEA and ADA/504 laws
- Stay current with new laws, trends, materials, and methods related to special education
- Perform other duties as assigned
