Spring Performance with Lincoln HI
On Thursday, April 19th the SMSU/Community Concert Band will perform their spring concert, Beginnings and Endings, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the SMSU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
The high school band from Lincoln HI in Ivanhoe will also be performing and Dr. Jan Loft, Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences will be featured narrating An Introduction to the Moon, by Libby Larsen.
The concert will feature a variety of wind literature and transcriptions associated with beginnings and endings, including one of Gustav Holst’s first and best known pieces for bands, the First Suite in Eb for Military Band and a piece written in honor of one of the first, and currently oldest continuing community bands, Variations on the theme, ‘Pop! Goes the Weasel’. The finale of Stravinsky’s first ballet, The Firebird, and many more pieces will be performed. The finale of the concert will be the Community Concert and Lincoln HI bands performing together on Lassus Trombone March, by Henry Fillmore.
