Job Description
Salary and TermsPart-time (75 -91.67%), nine month* fixed term position.  Salary placement is based on education, experience, and concurrent enrollment assignment.
Appointment Date: August 2019

Position Description:
This position's primary focus is mentoring high school teachers offering introductory and intermediate Spanish language courses through our concurrent enrollment program; it also includes teaching introductory Spanish classes on campus as needed. Teaching load will be no fewer than 18 credits, not to exceed 22 credits per academic year, based on concurrent enrollment needs of SMSU’s College Now program.  Duties include maintaining communications with high schools, department, and College Now personnel; reviewing syllabi, conducting assessment to insure rigor and quality of the program, conducting site visits, and offering assistance to teachers to improve their teaching of Spanish Language and Culture; and supporting the on-campus Spanish minor through advising and engaging in service to the university and community.  SMSU, in its commitment to meeting the service needs of the region, expects faculty to engage in regional service, education or study as part of their community service responsibility. 
 
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Spanish or related field required.
  • Native or near-native speaker is required.
  • Documented commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Demonstrated abilities/competence in instructional technology, including online instruction is preferred.
  • Student-centered approach to education and a commitment to helping grow the Spanish program.
  • Must have understanding of and appreciation for liberal arts.

*Nine Month Appointments- Along with all other Universities that are part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, standard faculty appointments are for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive months.  The nine months need not align with the traditional academic year and may be changed every two years.  Initial faculty appointments at SMSU are expected to be similar to or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated on the vacancy notice.
