Understanding Minds\, Transforming Care: A Mental Health and Neurodiversity Conference NAMI Minnesota\, Southwest Minnesota State University\, and Prairie Winds Counseling\, Inc. are proud to host Understanding Minds\, Transforming Care: A Mental Health and Neurodiversity Conference. Join us for a day of learning through informative sessions that increase empathy and understanding\, spotlight available services\, address common barriers to quality care\, and explore skill-building. This conference is open to anyone interested in becoming more responsive to the needs of neurodivergent adults with co-occurring mental illnesses\, especially those providing mental and physical health care or direct services. Neurodivergent adults face poorer health outcomes and lower quality healthcare. A lack of understanding\, compassion\, and skills contributes to the barriers reported by neurodivergent adults. This includes physical and mental healthcare and related direct services utilized by these individuals. The co-occurrence of mental illnesses and mental health challenges in neurodivergent adults is also common\, but diagnoses are often confused\, symptoms are often misunderstood\, and negative attitudes persist.
