After completing a master's degree in American Studies at the University of Minnesota\, he joined the Minnesota Historical Society\, where his work included researching\, exhibit development\, and several summers as a historic site interpreter. Later\, he worked at the Science Museum of Minnesota and Minnesota Children's Museum before starting a consulting business in 2002. He was born in Stearns County\, grew up in Las Vegas\, and currently lives in St. Paul\, spending as much time as he possibly can at his cabin up north.
